Full Job Description

Are you passionate about improving the lives of disabled children/young people/adults? Do you want to work for an employer who places major importance on high quality supervision, wellbeing and career development?
Bridgend County Borough Council offer great opportunities to further your social work career. We want Social Workers to join us to assess and support disabled children/young people/young adults and their families across the county borough.
Our Child Disability and Transition team is a frontline assessment, case management team which specialises in providing support and services to disabled children and young people across the County Borough of Bridgend. This includes children who are care experienced and those disabled young people who are transitioning into adulthood.
The team responds to children and families with complex needs or where there are early child protection concerns and provides high quality support and intervention for those with longer term needs.
We recognise the importance of a smooth transition into adulthood for disabled children/young people and have restructured our child disability team to ensure that we have a person centred approach and young people move on to adult services only when they are ready and have a settled plan for adulthood. We consulted with young people and their families who told us this was what they wanted and we listened and made the necessary changes to our service.
This is an excellent opportunity to join our busy, motivated and supportive Child Disability and Transition team. You will have a recognised social work qualification along with knowledge and understanding of the complex needs of disabled children/young people/adults and their families. Ideally you will have experience of working as a social worker in children or adult services and a desire to specialise in working with disabled children/young people/adults. We would also welcome applications from newly qualified social workers who have an interest in specialising in this area of social work.
This post offers a rare opportunity to manage both children and adult cases and to gain a wide range of case management experience across the age span within a supportive team.
All new staff will be provided with a suite of training that will support them to develop their practice in line with the principles of the Signs of Safety model of practice for their work with children and the Outcomes/Strengths model of practice which underpins the work we do with adults.
If successful you will receive a robust induction, regular supervision, additional support and mentoring where required. As well as this, you will be able to further your career with both developmental and promotional opportunities.
Our programme of support for newly qualified social workers won the 'Developing a Confident and Sustainable Workforce' award in the 2018 Social Care Wales accolades.
We are a reflective organisation that continuously builds on its strengths and is committed to the principle that the most effective way of improving outcomes for all children, young people and families is through the provision of accessible, universal services.

Protecting children, young people or adults at risk is a core responsibility of all council employees.
Criminal records check by the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) is a requirement for this post.
A valid driving licence is requirement for this post.
