The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role. Society and Change Club Tutor We are looking for Postgraduate students who would be interested in taking on the role of Saturday Club Tutor to lead our Humanities based Saturday Club, called Society and Change. The club is for c. 20-25 13-16-year-olds. The club aims to introduce young people into ideas and topics relating to anything from citizenship to society, place and wellbeing, race and racism, gender, inequality or policy (and anything in between or on top of this!), the club is open to being developed with room for creative leadership that relates to the post holder's interests. We are looking for a student who is currently undertaking some form of Postgraduate study from a range of disciplines that would relate to Society & Change broadly. This can be taught or research based. We would love to hear from you if you are interested in delivering taught content, working with young people and gaining hands on experience in the production and delivery of a fun, creative and energy filled workshop programme. You will be expected to work Saturdays and your club will also take trips, especially towards the end of the project in June when we go to London for a big celebration. The project is a sizeable commitment, you will be in charge of designing and delivering the club that will span 16+ weeks on Saturdays, at Manchester Met University. You will join a National organisation and take leadership of a creative and fulfilling project, coordinating directly with the National Saturday Club Trust and working as part of a team of tutors (all delivering different clubs) and a club coordinator. Duties:
- You will engage with an existing offering and connect with opportunities from across the uni to embed your programme into a wider network of outreach and engagement.
- The role will also include the mentoring and development of Club co-facilitators, recruited through Rise these student co-facilitators will support your delivery and have the opportunity to run their own sessions with your support.
- You will be responsible for monitoring and evaluation of the club, using resources provided to you, you will be expected to work within GDPR, undertake some safeguarding and health and safety training, have a DBS check (if you do not already have one), and keep online forms and registers up to date.
- You will lead the club group to London for an end of year show at Somerset House, an opportunity to celebrate and see everyone's work on display in a professional environment.
- During the week you will be expected to undertake planning, some admin, and communication between the Trust organisation, and any parent or young person queries, you will also log any hours for prep and clear up around workshop sessions.
- You will engage in a Microsoft Teams channel, sharing best practice, building community with your fellow tutors, and finding all resources you need in the shared space., Training Dates: These will take place in January and early February and will be held in person. You must attend all the essential training sessions. This will include:
- A full day's essential training session on Weds 15^th January 2025 (c.10.00am-4.00pm)
- Essential training on Weds 22^nd January (1.00pm-4.00pm)
- Essential training on Weds 29 January (c. 10.00am-4.00pm)
- Essential training on Weds 5 February (1.00pm-4.00pm) Club dates: Club sessions will begin on Saturday 8 February it and will end on 7 June 2025. In addition to this, you will accompany the club members on a trip to London in mid July 2025 for the summer exhibition and celebration event. It is essential you attend this trip. This is a full day commitment. Expected hours per week: 12 hours (this may be variable from week to week) This includes all training sessions, club sessions on a Saturday (10.30am-1.30pm and setting up / clearing away). It will also include the co-design of the club curriculum with the academic lead for the club (Marie Molloy), managing essential admin for the club via the NSC portal, communication with club members, attendance at meetings, and drop-in sessions with co-facilitators. Closing date: Wednesday 1^st January 11:59pm Interviews: Monday 6^th January Details of Training: You will be required to undertake self-study on the Rise website around Safeguarding, and facilitation of workshops. You will attend essential Health & Safety and Safeguarding training delivered by university services. You will attend planning workshops and mentoring session with university specialists. The role will be a collaborative opportunity, and we will recruit 2 tutors per Saturday club. There will be some development as part of this role, and you will be supported to deliver your programme. - Ability to communicate information and facilitate workshops - Creative and innovative workshop ideas in relation to the subject theme - Specialist practice insight into the subject or theme of the club you are applying to - Good organisation skills - Ability to self manage time, attend meetings and run a programme self directed - An interest in collaboration, sharing practice and working as part of a team - Experience or an interest working with young people - Insight or experience in mentoring in some way, an ability to support others
