Full Job Description

The Solar PV Installation Trainer will be responsible for delivering our industry unique Solar PV Installation programme that supports construction novices to progress to qualified installer status over 12 weeks. You will be responsible for leading theory and practical lessons for classes of up to 20 learners with support from our workshop technician for vocational sessions. You will ensure that all learner paperwork and records are maintained to high levels of accuracy and that the pastoral needs of learners are supported to help them sustain and achieve on programme. You will be involved in recruiting learners to the programme and actively communicating with colleagues and stakeholders about its benefits.

You will undertake pre-programme assessment and oversee course assessment activities ensuring learners are supported at every stage and able to achieve at a level that is right for them. Solar PV Experience essential, experience as a Tutor/Trainer is desired but not essential.

We encourage candidates to apply with background/experience that have worked on solar construction projects as construction supervisors, project managers, solar technicians, journeymen, electricians or electrical engineers.

Your Responsibilities

  • Develop learning materials for instruction and activities in the areas of photovoltaic systems, design, operations, construction, safety, and best practices.

  • Designs and implements hands-on, lab-oriented, engineering, and construction-related activities.

  • Provides structured, project-based lessons on industry standards and learning that interconnects career development and integral subject knowledge.

  • Creates and maintains an effective environment for learning.

  • Maintains meaningful positive rapport with trainees, staff, program partners, and stakeholders, organizational affiliates, and industry partners

  • Implements rigorous lesson plans that are driven by technical and performance assessment.

  • Implements and utilises digital learning platforms and resources associated with the industry standards and curriculum.

  • Exposes members to a wide variety of skills and knowledge in topics ranging from initial exposure to a deeper understanding. To include lab work and "hands-on training" outside of the classroom, and any practice of learning associated with providing technical capacity for a career in renewable energy.

  • Supporting workshop technician to perform in their role and oversee quality of practical learning environment is maintained within expected health and safety and learning standards.

  • Liaising with Solar Prgramme Employer Solutions Consultant to ensure employer volunteers are utilise appropriately on programme and that learner aspirations and needs are effectively communicated in preparation for interview opportunities

    Proven industry experience in the field of solar panel installation, installing/servicing heat pumps or extensive experience in electricals, plumbing and heating

  • Strong presentation abilities to engage diverse group of learners

  • Exceptional technical knowledge of products/standards

  • Strong communication and organisation skills

  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and to address the varying needs of members in our program from diverse backgrounds


  • Desirable
  • Experience working within a learning and development or training/teaching role in a vocational setting

  • Teaching and/or Assessor qualification

  • IOSH/H&S certifications

  • PV Installation professional certification

  • Specific experience with domestic air or ground source heat pumps

  • Knowledge or qualifications relating to other renewables such as wind, geothermal carbon capture, hydrogen etc
