Full Job Description

The Senior Solicitor will provide high quality legal advice and assistance to the University, offering legal insight on general contracting, including education contracts, academic partnerships, student recruitment, IT, procurement, intellectual property, data protection regulation and the regulatory framework for a wide range of University activities, delivering pragmatic legal advice and guidance to senior management across the University.

Working closely with the Legal Services and Corporate Governance team, you will advise on the legal aspects of contract preparation, negotiation, submission, approval and policy, and will work alongside the rest of the Legal Services team to manage legal risk across a diverse remit.

Additionally, you will provide mentoring, training, advice and guidance to all staff to ensure standard templates, operating procedures and guidance are prepared, reviewed and used in support of their role.

You will be a fully qualified solicitor or barrister, with sufficient post-qualification experience. You will have significant experience in drafting, negotiating and advising on contracts and related risks, and have sufficient legal knowledge to grasp new and emerging areas of specialism quickly, as required by the University's diverse remit.

Knowledge of wider commercial law, charity law, consumer law, intellectual property law, IT contracts and procurement-related contracts will be beneficial.

In addition, you will have good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work with teams of legal and governance professionals. Collaborating effectively with various internal and external stakeholders and participate in complex negotiations, you will confidently deliver and defend legal advice with diplomacy.

Finally, we seek a self-confident, self-motivating and self-reliant individual who is highly organised and takes a methodical approach in all aspects of work. You will be solution focused, with a positive and collaborative attitude, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

At Bournemouth University, we have a fantastic new opportunity for a senior solicitor to join our friendly, experienced and supportive in-house Legal Services and Corporate Governance team. Bournemouth University's vision is worldwide recognition as a leading university for inspiring learning, advancing knowledge and enriching society through the fusion of education, research and practice.
