Full Job Description

A great opportunity is available to join the Payments & Cards architecture team as a Solution Architect. This is an exciting time for the payments technology teams as we transform how we operate within the Bank.

Solutions architecture is part of the domain architecture team within Santander UK. It works closely with other architecture teams and liaises with business and IT colleagues in Santander UK, as well as Santander global architecture.

The difference you'll make:

  • Balancing business requirements with functional & technical strategy to ensure we deliver sustainable solutions

  • Producing functional architecture for projects

  • Reviewing the designs that have been produced by engineering teams using guidance and patterns that have been provided to them by architecture

  • Validating that solutions align to the strategies of Santander UK and Group

  • Working with the engineering community to deliver solutions

    Payments and corporate domain expertise who can demonstrate experience of solution architecture

  • Knowledge and experience of payments processing, covering all stages of the payment process, including initiation, order management and execution, gateways, as well as post-processing and data management, and industry standards, including ISO 20022

  • Experience of architecture design

  • Proven experience in defining and documenting pragmatic architectures, that balance business requirements with functional and technical strategy to deliver sustainable solutions

  • Experience working with stakeholders to help define and deliver strategic objectives and roadmaps

  • Knowledge of planning and organizing concepts and best practices with the ability to manage multiple projects


  • It would also be nice for you to have:
  • Working knowledge of the BIAN framework, TOGAF, ArchiMate and the C4 model

  • Experience of using architecture tools such as Avolution Abacus

  • Knowledge & experience of AWS & Cloud Architectures

  • Knowledge & experience of APIs and microservices


  • What else you need to know:

    This role is based in Milton Keynes.

To support this, we offer site-based contracts with a hybrid working pattern and our expected level of attendance in an office is at least 12 days per month (pro-rata for part-time roles).

    1st Stage - Technical Interview - this will a 30min technical interview with one of the team

    2nd Stage - A one-hour formal interview where we will ask both technical and competency-based questions. This can be done virtually or face to face depending on your situation.
