Full Job Description

The post will involve delivering or helping to deliver projects; for example, running a volunteer work programme with local businesses, carrying out practical work to improve habitat for a protected species, running a communications campaign, supporting tourism businesses on the Solway or delivering events. You will also be expected to help to secure funding for the delivery of projects as well as assist with the preparation and monitoring of the National Landscape 5-year Management Plan. The post is based in the Solway Coast National Landscape offices in Silloth but you will work on a range of sites within the designated area and beyond as well as from home where appropriate. Some of the work will take place outdoors in a countryside setting, so you will have plenty of opportunities to get out and about into the landscape, helping people to improve their health and wellbeing and carrying out practical outdoor tasks., Our interview process can accommodate both in-person and virtual formats, with tailored options discussed upon invitation to the interview stage. Preferred for virtual interviews is the use of Microsoft Teams, currently available for new users at no cost. However, should you encounter any challenges accessing this technology, we are open to discussing alternative arrangements prior to the scheduled interviews.

You will have good experience and knowledge of the designated landscapes of Cumbria and the north of England, nature conservation, cultural heritage and public engagement. You will have a degree or equivalent and at least two years' work experience in an environmental or cultural landscape related field. You will be an excellent communicator with a positive attitude, enthusiastic about the Solway and what it can offer, with experience in running events and producing communication and interpretation materials with a focus on access and inclusivity for all. We are looking for someone who is creative, self-motivated and energetic but also diplomatic and adaptable at the same time. Fundamentally, we are seeking individuals who embody our organisation's core values: ambitious, collaborative, compassionate, empowering, and innovative. We believe in the power of these values to drive positive change and shape a better future for our communities. Your commitment to these principles will be instrumental in delivering services that are vital to the well-being and prosperity of our residents.

As the successful candidate, much of your work will be focused on public engagement and communications, working with a wide range of people to encourage them to develop their understanding and enjoyment of the landscape and their role in looking after it. Your role will deliver projects and work programmes right across the designated area, involving harder to reach communities and working to provide people with the opportunities to improve their health and wellbeing and spend time outdoors. It's a great opportunity to bring people and landscapes together, engaging all ages and backgrounds with nature, the coastline and the rich historical legacy we have here on the Solway.
