Full Job Description

This exciting opportunity is for a qualified Reporting Sonographer based at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital. There will also be the opportunity to cover Community Hospitals in the nearby towns of Chirk and Deeside, which offers a different mix of workload.

You will work closely with senior colleagues to develop and optimise the US service, ensuring a patient focused, safe, effective and efficient service that is able to meet the current and future needs of the wider Health Board and local population.

We have a dynamic team of Sonographers and Radiographic Assistants who offer a strong mix of experienced staff as well as those new to the profession. The US service operates over seven days a week.

The Ultrasound team has regular team meetings with frequent opportunities for CPD and role extension. All our Ultrasound machines have multiple ergonomic features and are within the recommended age profile in line with the Canadian Equipment Lifecycle recommendations with six of our nine Ultrasound machines being purchased within the last 2 years. The department utilises the 'Trophon 2' system for decontamination of probes, all Ultrasound lists are performed with a chaperone, and all US rooms have a dedicated imaging couch.

The sonographer will be independently responsible for carrying out and reporting on specialised ultrasound examinations to a high standard and in a professional manner, working to departmental guidelines whilst being accountable for their own actions. Excellent clinical skills, experience and a post graduate ultrasound qualification are essential.

Experience across a wide range of examinations including general abdominal, gynaecological, obstetrics and DVT is essential. Small parts and/or MSK experience would be an advantage.

Please note that applicants who are successfully shortlisted will be required to attend an on-site face-to-face interview. It is essential that all candidates need to hold a PG Dip in Medical Ultrasound or equivalent, awarded from a CASE accredited UK University. Registration with HCPC is essential.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
