Job Summary: The post holder will be required to work as an independent practitioner within the multi-disciplinary team in ultrasound to provide a high quality clinical service which includes the production of a diagnostic report for all examinations performed., To perform all paediatric ultrasound examinations to a high standard including production of a diagnostic report, all necessary documentation and computer records., 1. 2. To assess the appropriateness of the examination from the information provided together with the clinical history from the patient using specialist knowledge, skills and experience.
3. To analyse the information fully and make a clinically based judgement on the type of examination to perform and be able to justify it.
4. To interpret and analyse the findings of the examination and complete a diagnosis from a range of differential diagnoses.
5. To use specialist knowledge, skills and experience to change or extend an examination as per your own judgement and assessment.
6. To be completely accountable for own actions including diagnosing and reporting
7. To have the autonomy of practise to discuss the results with the patient/parent /referring clinician.
8. To acquire diagnostic ultrasound images using dexterity, coordination and sensory skills, whilst accurately and physically positioning the patient, taking into account a full range of presentations, patient limitations and adapting standard techniques where necessary.
9. To demonstrate a high level of specialist knowledge and competency in paediatric techniques and pathologies.
10. To be competent in the use of all ultrasound equipment for the acquisition, processing and manipulation of images.
11. To encourage and develop the highest professional and technical standards in all staff, using personal example and constructive supervision.
12. To personally maintain and improve practical and theoretical standards in paediatric ultrasound by ensuring ongoing and active personal CPD (Continued Professional Development)
13. To have shared responsibility in the arranging of patient appointments within the Ultrasound department.
14. To promote and develop all aspects of patient care, by pursuit of high professional standards, both personally and among all radiographic staff.
15. To maintain and develop effective communication links with patient, carers and other professionals within the Trust and be able to communicate, gain co-operation and deliver information where there are barriers to understanding.
16. To effectively manage time and workload without supervision, contributing to the delivery of an effective and responsive Radiology service.
17. To fully comply and ensure adherence with local rules, professional Codes of Conduct, guidelines governing the safe use of ultrasound in medicine (BMUS Safety guidelines, 2020) and codes of practice for radiation protection (IRMER, 2017).
18. To participate in the governance of the department to ensure a safe working environment and reduce clinical risk by following all Trust and departmental policies and procedures.
19. To assist in the supervision, instruction and training of ultrasound staff, junior radiologists and students in the delivery of the service and assess and respond to their individual developmental needs.
20. To be involved in the maintenance and further development of quality assurance, quality control and audit procedures in the Ultrasound Department.
21. To assist in the research and preparation of papers, articles and posters for publication.
22. To formally lecture as and when required.
23. To review and comment on continuing appropriateness of accepted working practices within the ultrasound department.
24. To be responsible for the safe use and maintenance of all ultrasound equipment and report any faults and log them appropriately.

Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care and has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients' homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust is a major teaching hospital of the University of Liverpool and has been approved as a supra-regional centre for cardiac surgery, epilepsy surgery and major trauma amongst others. Alder Hey is one of Europe's busiest children's hospitals and we care for over 270,000 young people and their families every year.
We serve not only the local population of children, but we are the tertiary referral centre for children from Merseyside, Cheshire, parts of Lancashire, Shropshire and North Wales for many sub-specialties of paediatrics.
The hospital has approximately 270 beds including day beds for surgery. The paediatric services and expertise within the hospital are considerable and include paediatric ophthalmology, cardiology, cardio-thoracic surgery, neonatology, neurology, neurosurgery, audiology, nephrology, respiratory medicine, oncology, trauma, general surgery and general medicine. The radiology department provides all imaging modalities, including nuclear medicine, CT, MRI and intervention.

We currently have more than 4,000 staff working across our community and hospital sites. We're also a teaching and training hospital providing education and training to around 540 medical and over 500 nursing and allied health professional students each year.
