Specialist Biomedical Scientist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Biomedical Scientist Band 6 (or developmental role Band 5 with uplift on completion of IBMS Specialist Portfolio or equivalent in Haematology and Blood Transfusion), to join the dynamic and evolving team within the Haematology and Blood Transfusion departments at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust.,

• You will participate in the laboratory rotation through all sections of Haematology and Blood Transfusion and ensure that a quality service is being provided.
• Following an appropriate period of training, the post holder will be required to participate in the out-of-hours service.
• The department is well equipped using the following platforms, Horiba Yumizen H2500/H1500, Stago STA-R max, BioFlash, Sebia Capillarys 3, Immucor NEO IRIS and CliniSys WinPath.
• The laboratory is currently in process of transitioning to Beaker/SafeTtx LIMS.
  
  We would like our new team member to have good organisational, interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work flexibly. Previous experience of working in a UKAS accredited laboratory and experience of using a quality management system is required.
HCPC registered BMS and must have (or working towards) the IBMS Specialist Portfolio or equivalent in Haematology and Blood Transfusion. The department is IBMS approved for training and has UKAS accreditation to ISO 15189.

Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust is an integrated organisation providing acute health care services from Torbay Hospital, community health services and adult social care healthcare services for a residential population of 375000 and an additional 100000 visitors in the holiday season. The Haematology and Blood Transfusion department provides a comprehensive service for the Trust and the associated NHS Organisation's. Torbay Hospital is situated in Torquay, part of the English Rivera, with spectacular scenery and some of the cleanest beaches in Britain. The unspoilt wilderness of the Dartmoor National Park is within easy reach.
