Full Job Description

As a State Registered Biomedical Scientist, the post holder will be a member of the departmental team and assist in the delivery of a quality driven, cost effective, patient focused service consistent with the 'Trust' objectives. They will provide a service in a manner that commensurate with the profession. The post holders' main role is to carry out the examination of pathological samples using various technologies and to report or present the results as appropriate (this will include bacteriology, virology and molecular sections of the laboratory). In undertaking this role, all employees will be expected to behave at all times in a way that is consistent with and actively supports the principles listed. These are:

  • The post holder will be required to work on sites as appropriate for the delivery of the service and may be asked to work across sites within the trust. The post holder will be required to support a 24/7 service including on-call (out of hours) provision as required.
  • Applicants must be HCPC registered and have a IBMS Specialist Portfolio.Main duties of the job With a professional approach whilst working within the parameters of Trust Policies and departmental Standard Operating Procedures undertake the following key job responsibilities under the direction of the Team Leaders: Service Delivery & Development
  • To participate in the routine work of the laboratory in accordance with laboratory procedure in an efficient, cost effective and safe manner.
  • To help maintain the accreditation requirements of UKAS as appropriate
  • The list of duties as described by the General Manager of Department will include:
  • Infection Control
  • Health and Safety
  • Governance
  • Equipment maintenance
  • Stock Control
  • Information and IT
  • Planning
  • supervisory
  • Perform other technical duties as required within post-holder's training and competence.
  • Working Conditions
  • The post holder will work generally in a laboratory environment and may be required to sit or stand at the bench for prolonged periods. It is expected that the role will involve light to moderate physical effort.
  • The post holder will be exposed to potentially infectious pathological samples on a daily basis with occasional exposure to other risks e.g. chemical encountered in the laboratory.
  • The laboratory provides a 24/7 day diagnostic service throughout the year. The hours of working are to be confirmed at interview
