Full Job Description

A number of exciting opportunities have arisen for enthusiastic and committed pharmacists to become part of our Enhanced (Core) clinical teams at band 7 level at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. This will involve delivering high quality clinical pharmacy services to a range of patients and specialities: in acute settings, community teams, and intermediary care. These posts are rotational and will enable you to gain a broad range of knowledge. You will also be supervising junior staff, attending ward rounds, clinics and delivering multi-disciplinary teaching.

The Enhanced Clinical rotational programme is targeted at pharmacists finishing their clinical diploma and entails working in specialities such as general medicine, elderly care, orthopaedics, plastic surgery, general surgery, oncology, urology, and HDU. You will learn how to manage a team, review more complex patients and respond to medication incidents.

This programme as a whole will assist your development towards a highly specialist (8a) clinical pharmacist., The Enhanced (Core) Clinical rotations provide ward based experience in both general medicine and surgical specialities, with opportunities to gain an introduction to oncology and critical care. Extending your band 6 knowledge and skills, continuing to cover wards, but adding in day-to-day management of a small team. This role builds team management and leadership skills through working in a structured team with the support of senior clinical pharmacists.

As well as delivering ward-based clinical services, the candidates will have the opportunity to undertake Trust-based management courses, practice team management and organisation responsibilities (e.g. staff planning, business planning), taking on a leadership role (i.e. project supervision, training, mentoring and appraisal of junior staff members) and generating reports and leading investigations in line with Directorate priorities (e.g. root-cause analyses and finance reporting).

We encourage all our clinical pharmacists to become independent prescribers and will support you to complete this course.

Over the next 6 - 12 months, our rotational B7 programme will be reviewed and updated to reflect the ever changing landscape of clinical pharmacy practice. Therefore, the rotations mentioned in the advert may change and more variety offered as we start to review what experience we can offer our team members. Individuals enrolled in these programmes will be engaged and supported if and when this process takes place.
