Full Job Description

The Specialist Dietitian in Eating Disorders will, in conjunction with the Eating Disorders Team, continue to develop and provide, a comprehensive and effective specialist service to young people and families. This will include specialist clinical oversight for children, young people and families within the services ARFID pathway.

You will be supported within the team by senior clinicians and will work closely with other specialists within the service. Clinical supervision and professional leadership will be provided.

This post would also contribute to the continuing development of the liaison pathway with Paediatric Inpatients and specialist meant heath units.

The post holder will work alongside clinical colleagues in order to deliver a holistic evidence-based care plan for patients and families.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be delivering specialist and specific dietetic advice to children, young people and families presenting with complex eating disorders. Experience of working with eating disorders is essential to the role.

A good understanding of adolescent development and the consequences and complexities of eating disorders is essential to service delivery. Clinicians work closely with young people, families, and clinical colleagues across various environments using the MEED framework to access risk.

The post holder will be responsible for the planning and operational day-to-day delivery of dietetic support for patients and families and be able to evidence organisational skills and the ability to work as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team. Alongside providing consultancy, advice and training to staff, service users, and carers on diet and nutritional issues, requiring expert knowledge, teaching, and presentational skills.

Be able to advise and support the Hampshire Eating Disorder Team in assessment and treatment of clients with ARFID, including development and review of ARFID care pathways within the service.

Using professional judgements, to include the analysis of biochemistry results and clinical, physical and social conditions to advice on dietary treatments including future revision of care plans. Supporting the use of motivational, negotiating and person-centred skills to support patients and families to understand their diagnosis and help overcome barriers to change.

The final combination of Southern Health and Solent Trusts is anticipated to occur in July 2024, when the new organisation will be formed.
