Specialist Grade Doctor and Medical Lead in Haemopoietic Stem Cell Processing

The Clinical Haematology Department based at Hammersmith Hospital continues to expand and develop innovative treatment pathways to drive forward the high standards of care that we aspire to deliver for all our patients. This includes the John Goldman Centre for Cellular Therapy that provides highly specialist clinical, technical and scientific services for patients undergoing stem cell transplantation and immunotherapy. In addition to supporting the routine clinical stem cell transplant programme, the JGCCT also collaborates on the development and manufacture of new cellular therapies. The laboratory is located in a purpose built facility fully accredited by the HTA and JACIE. It additionally holds IMP and ATMP MHRA licenses.

Applications are invited from enthusiastic, well-motivated and organised individuals who would like to fill in this key post. The Specialist Grade Doctor will be the laboratory Medical lead in Clinical Trials service development such as validations, IMP introduction into the laboratory including both commercial and in-house developments. The post holder will expected to be involved in quality system development, training, data management and in new/on-going clinical trials research, bringing new therapies into clinical practice., The Medical Lead: Haemopoietic Stem Cell Processing will:

Use and develop specialist skills within the Quality Testing Dept. in order that patient evaluation and product quality testing are carried out appropriately and in a timely manner conducive to good patient management.

Use and develop specialist skills within the Processing Dept. in the controlled working environment, clean rooms, and associated areas, to maintain regulatory compliance and a safe environment for the processing of cell harvests for clinical use.

Use and develop specialist skills to help translate discoveries made during research into clinical practice.

The post holder will be the lead in supporting Clinical Trials within the laboratory from a Site Initiation Visit by a Sponsor to an Investigational Product (IP) receipt, storage, processing, and infusion as directed by the Head of Operations and Regulatory Affairs and Clinical Trials Pharmacists.

In carrying out these duties, the post holder will maintain close communication with the Trial Sponsor, PI, QP, Clinical Trials Pharmacists, Medical, Nursing and Pharmacy staff attached to the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit activities and Clinical trials office based at Hammersmith Hospital, the Paediatric team based at St Mary's Hospital and any other relevant departments within Imperial College NHS Trust and outside the Trust.
