Full Job Description

  • This role will involve being part of NBT addictions team which provides holistic, patient centered, nonjudgmental care to patients who present to the trust with issues relating to alcohol or drug use. The post holder will also be involved in the deliver of interventions in relation to treating tobacco dependency where appropriate.
  • The Addictions team provides a dynamic and responsive service to the Emergency Department Monday - Friday 9-5. There is an expectation that the post holder will develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to cover the emergency department role 1 day a week.
  • This post holder will be part of a dynamic, proactive, supportive and caring team who put exceptional patient centered care at the heart of everything they do. The team maintains a positive and engaging approach with patients and supportive advocacy.
  • We are a developing service and there will be an expectation that weekends will be covered, in the future, on a rotational basis. Currently there is an opportunity to work an 8-4 Monday -Friday pattern or 3x 8-6.30 shifts and 18-4, It will provide a specialist alcohol service to service users, including the assessment of care needs, the planning, implementation, and evaluation of care to meet those needs and contributing to the evaluation of care in the acute Hospital environment and ongoing referrals to support wrap around care and support on discharge.
  • The job will involve working with patients to provide a pathway into treatment in the community for their alcohol use where appropriate. The team have a close working relationship and supportive pathways with local primary care providers.
  • The post holder will deliver opportunistic brief interventions and have a willingness to develop skills to co-facilitate the SMART recovery group at NBT. The post holder will be part of the wider Hepatology service at NBT and there is an expectation that the postholder will be in Hepatology clinics on Thursday mornings and part of the fibroscanning service at Nurse led Monday clinic. There will be training available for this if the post holder is not fibroscan trained currently.
