Full Job Description

B6 Specialist Occupational Therapist working as part of Durham & Darlington' Community Rehabilitation & Recovery Team based at Lanchester Road Hospital, Durham.

The successful candidate will be able to progress their own caseload to the highest standard and support other Occupational Therapists in the team.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic full time Occupational Therapist to join our dedicated team of occupational therapists who work as part of our specialist 'Community Rehabilitation & Recovery Team'.

This established post is targeted at working with adults with complex mental health problems who have who have rehabilitation needs .

Patients originate from a variety of (adult mental health) inpatient wards or community teams in the Durham & Darlington locality.

This is a great development opportunity for staff with existing mental health experience who wish to broaden their knowledge further into this highly specialist service area.

Occupational therapy will be provided as a deliverable intervention which aims to support users in personally meaningful recovery of ordinary lives and daily occupation / s.

A commitment to assessment of occupational need and the therapeutic use of occupation based intervention as core to role is essential.

The occupational therapist will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team committed to collaborative working, and focusing on the provision of high quality evidence based services to individuals or groups in a variety of predominantly community settings.

Applicants must meet the shortlisting criteria to be considered for this post (including HCPC registration)., Progress own caseload in line with RCOT, HCPC & TEWV guidelines relating to the delivery of occupationally focused assessment and intervention (see job description for details).

The postholder will be required to supervise and support other occupational therapists in the team and provide the highest possible standards of care.

Essential

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent

  • Registration with HCPC

  • Successful completion of preceptorship year as a graduate occupational therapist (or equivalent in non-NHS sectors)

  • Clinical Supervisory Skills course (or willingness to undertake within agreed timescale)

  • Trust training in Appraisal and Recruitment (or willingness to undertake within an agreed timescale)

  • Numeracy, Literacy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)


  • Desirable
  • Accredited Practice Placement Educator (APPLE)

  • Post-graduate qualification in a relevant area


  • Experience

    Essential
  • Significant experience of delivering Occupational Therapy including experience working with service users in mental health or learning disabilities with complex needs

  • Experience of supervising students on placement

  • Experience of participation in quality improvement activities

  • Experience of developing and delivering training


  • Desirable

    Day to day supervision of staff

    Knowledge

    Essential
  • Highly specialist clinical knowledge in own specialist area

  • Good understanding of national strategy, guidance and key standards in own specialist area and their application in practice

  • National guidance and key standards in own specialist area

  • Health and Safety legislation and its application in practice

  • Legal aspects of Moving and Handling
