Full Job Description

We have a great opportunity for a specialist orthodontist who wants experience and to get involved in the management of patients with more complex orthodontic needs under supervision of a senior consultant orthodontist.

This is an opportunity to increase your confidence in treating patients who require multidisciplinary care or who have additional medical needs or a learning disability.

·The duties of the post, as directed and overseen by the Consultant Orthodontist will be:

- Taking part in new patient and multi-disciplinary clinics.

- Treatment of orthodontic patients

- Administrative work arising from outpatient and inpatient care

- Participating in Audit, research and teaching

- Taking part in departmental and clinical governance meetings., · To provide a high standard, full range of specialist elective care for Orthodontic patients in the outpatient department.

· The duties of the post, as directed and overseen by the Consultant Orthodontist will be:

- Taking part in new patient and multi-disciplinary clinics.

- Treatment of orthodontic patients

- Administrative work arising from outpatient and inpatient care

- Participating in Audit, research and teaching

- Taking part in departmental and clinical governance meetings.

· Keep comprehensive records and complete statistical returns to monitor the services provided.

· The provision of in-service training to the dental team.

· The supervision of the salaried dental staff who are working under the direction of the Specialist Orthodontist.

· To maintain professional knowledge and awareness of current orthodontic issues. Continuing postgraduate education will be encouraged and supported, especially in the post holder's areas of special interests.

· To adapt flexibly to changes which occur in the service and assist in implementing such changes, as agreed with the commissioners.

· To be aware of and apply the policies and procedures within the scope of delegated responsibility.

· Participate, through appraisal, in matching organisational aims with personal objectives and supporting staff within own area of responsibility to do the same.

· Take responsibility for their own and others' health and safety in the working environment.

· Take responsibility for identifying risks and taking action to control them as appropriate to the post.

· Ensure timely input of all patient related information onto relevant hospital records.

Some roles may require weekend shifts at multiple sites.

· To provide high quality specialist treatment and care to patients referred from general dental practitioners, general medical practitioners, hospital paediatricians and other healthcare professionals.

· The keeping of legible, concise and confidential dental records.

· To provide supervision and mentoring for Orthodontic therapist and junior dental team.

· Take responsibility for patient treatment standards, confirmation of consent, medical history and clinical governance.

· To undertake clinical and non-clinical duties, demonstrating the competencies identified by the General Dental Council for a Specialist Orthodontist.
