Full Job Description

This is an exciting new role which has been established to support with the expansion of the Rheumatology Pharmacy team. The post holder will work with the Principal Pharmacist for Planned Medicine and Rheumatology MDT to establish outpatient clinics and develop/ streamline processes for initiating and maintaining patients on biologics. Although previous experience of working in the outpatient setting and/or with Rheumatology patients is desirable, it is not essential as extensive training will be provided during the induction period and on an ongoing basis. The successful candidate will provide pharmacist-led clinics, lead a Virtual Biologics Clinic for patients initiating new therapies and ensure that Medicines Optimisation opportunities are realised. The post holder will play an active role in developing and monitoring treatment pathways with colleagues across South East London, offering an excellent opportunity for networking and sharing experiences. There will be ample opportunity for the successful candidate to expand their portfolio, including through involvement in service development, research, audit and quality improvement projects. The role will require the successful candidate to attend King's Denmark Hill and Orpington Hospital sites. This role will participate in providing seven day services to the pharmacy department in line with departmental policies, with a need to provide senior on-call support (off-site).Main duties of the job The post holder will work as part of a dedicated pharmacy team to lead, provide and develop specialist clinical pharmacy services to Rheumatology. The main responsibilities of the post holder will be:

  • Act as a specialist role model and an expert in the medical management within Rheumatology.
  • Lead and manage clinical pharmacy services in Rheumatology in conjunction with the Principal Pharmacist.
  • Participate regularly in outpatient clinics to deliver and promote high quality, cost-effective and patient-focused pharmaceutical care.
  • Actively participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds, delivering and promoting high quality, cost-effective, patient-focused pharmaceutical care.
  • Provide patient and carer education.
  • Promote safe drug use within the Rheumatology specialty.
  • Development, implementation and audit of local guidelines.
  • Regular financial reporting, drug usage and expenditure forecasting, and drug budget management.
  • To participate in practice and clinical research and audit.
  • To participate in line management
