We are in the process of setting up new Well-Being and Emotional Resilience Hub as part of the SEND/Alternative Provision Change Programme. At the Hub, bespoke education packages will be delivered to individual or small groups of children and young people and it will support learners who are currently unable to attend school due to Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.

About the role…

Our Specialist SEMH Higher Level Teaching Assistants will work within our new Well-Being and Emotional Resilience Hub based in Gateshead, to support children and young people who have social, emotional and mental health needs which are preventing them from returning to mainstream school. The role includes providing a range of specialist intervention and support programmes at individual, child or group level to build the resilience and confidence of the children and young people by reducing the barriers they face through therapeutic interventions. The role also includes supporting the academic progress of these children and young people to aid reintegration into mainstream education.

The successful candidates must have excellent knowledge and understanding of child and adolescent development. Knowledge of the barriers to learning they face in relation to their social, emotional and mental health needs and be able to draw upon a range of strategies and interventions to overcome such barriers. A knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and its implications for practice is also essential.

Experience of working with children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs is essential and successful candidates will meet the Higher-Level Teaching Assistants' standards or have an equivalent qualification.
