The salary scale above has been agreed as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2024/2025 and will be implemented in November 2024 backdated to 1st April 2024 where applicable., We are looking for two part-time Band 6 Speech and Language Therapists to work within Learning Disability and/or Memory Assessment Services (MAS) on a fixed term basis until September 2025. Full-time hours may be available for people wishing to take up a single post across the two services.
In MAS, we have a special interest in Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA), and are a core part of the wider MDT working in language led dementias. We are active in several UK-wide networks working in Dementia and PPA.
In Adult Learning Disabilities (ALD) we are active in various related CENs and work closely with SLT colleagues in acute services, local authorities and private providers.
There are strong working links across the whole SLT department with opportunities to develop clinical skills and expand professional development with support from specialist colleagues and SLT Clinical Leads. We prioritise service development and evidence-based practise., MAS will involve undertaking a range of cognitive communication assessments to inform diagnostic consideration in dementia across four MDT settings. Short term input at an early post diagnostic stage of dementia for people with co-occurring communication difficulties will form part of this role. Dysphagia screening where this is indicated will also be required.
ALD Services will involve undertaking communication and/or dysphagia assessment and advice. Working with families, care providers and Local Authorities will be central to the role, along with the provision of staff training and MDT working. You will have regular opportunities to collaborate with other SLTs across the Swansea Bay ALD service. A key focus for the postholder will be the continuing development and maintenance of the Inclusive Communication Initiative for which the department has a comprehensive training package and support system. An established supervision and support network is in place across the SLT team., The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

All disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria listed in the Person Specification will be invited to interview.

There will be a strong emphasis on person-centred planning and co- production across both services. You will be supported in both roles by the Clinical Lead Speech and Language Therapists.
