Full Job Description

Are you an experienced Speech and Language Therapist who enjoys variety and would like the opportunity to develop skills working with adults with acquired speech, language, swallowing and communication disorders?

The role involves providing SLT intervention to adults with acquired neurological or medical related communication and swallowing disorders in our outpatient department and acute service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to independently assess and treat patients in the SLT department who present with acquired medical and/or neurological related swallowing and communication disorders. They will work in a supportive team with band 7, band 5 and administrative colleagues, delivering 1:1 and group interventions as appropriate. The post holder will also be able to work with a specialist Parkinsons MDT.

The SLT department has strong working links across the whole team with opportunities to develop specialist clinical skills and expand professional development with support from specialist colleagues. The department is equipped with state of the art equipment to optimize patient care including access to videofluoroscopy clinics, several FEES stacks and instrumental bio-feedback equipment for dysphagia rehabilitation and computer based communication therapy.

The ideal candidate will be innovative and dynamic, with strong time management and MDT working skills. Specialist clinical skills and knowledge of managing speech, language, swallowing and communication disorders relating to acquired neurological or medical aetiologies will be vital. The successful candidate will need to be flexible and adaptable to respond to the clinical demands of the service.
