Full Job Description

Within the Community Team for Adults with Learning Disabilities, the Speech and Language Therapy team provides a specialist service to support the communication and eating, drinking and swallowing (dysphagia) needs of adults with learning disabilities by carrying out the appropriate assessment and developing a Care Plan.This includes face to face support and multidisciplinary working.Speech and Language Therapy also offers support to carers, paid and family.Speech and Language Therapy also offers specialist dysphagia training to support intervention., You will provide evidence-based assessment and intervention to support the communication and eating, drinking and swallowing (dysphagia) needs of adults with learning disabilities living in the community and attending various settings such as day services and college. You will work within a large, friendly Learning Disability Team to ensure a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to a person's needs is offered. This includes regularly joint working with Psychologists, Learning Disability Nurses, Psychiatrists, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists. You will be able to follow and provide advice regarding the Mental Capacity Act, Safeguarding and other relevant legislation and local policy and process. You will attend multidisciplinary meetings with other Learning Disability Team members and external stakeholders including Adult Social Care and the Integrated Care Board. You will need to be able to keep contemporaneous records of your work in accordance with Trust policy and professional registration requirements. You will offered regular supportive supervision and continuing professional development opportunities. You will deliver high quality dysphagia training for carers. You will offer support to carers around any aspect of the intervention that you are providing. You will offer training and support to non registered members of the Learning Disability Team who support our clinical interventions.
