A Vacancy at Northumbria Healthcare - NHCT Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. We are excited to be offering the opportunity to join Northumbria Healthcare Speech and Language Therapy, Whole Life Complex and Additional Needs Team. We are looking to recruit an innovative, caring and dynamic SLT who would like to further develop their existing skills in communication and eating/drinking difficulties, in people with learning disability and complex needs. The post will involve working across the Adult Learning Disability and Paediatric Complex and Additional Needs Teams, working with people with learning disabilities. The successful candidate will work across Northumberland and North Tyneside, working into patient's homes, care settings and special schools. The successful candidate should have knowledge and skills in the assessment and management of communication difficulties andshould also have knowledge and skills in supporting families, carers and setting staff to embed communication strategies into their daily practice.They will work with a varied caseload of adults/children/young people; from those who are non-speaking and use a wide range of communication strategies such as objects, signing, AAC to those who use verbal communication skills and have challenges when participating in daily activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for caseload planning and management, providing peer support and supervision to junior members of the team, planning and supporting care staff and teaching assistants to provide SLT interventions, evaluating the outcomes and impact of their clinical work and contributing to quality improvement projects and clinical audits. You will be committed to partnership working with other health and social care professionals and education teams and have excellent communication and prioritisation skills. Knowledge and skills in the assessment and management of eating/drinking and swallowing is desirable for the role. The Complex and Additional Needs Speech and Language Therapy team is a small team who are passionate about supporting people with complex needs, their families,their carers' and professionals.We have well established and strong connections with our Health, Adult Social Careand Local Authority colleagues allowing us to work in partnership at all levels. We have regular opportunities for joint CPD and clinical support and supervision with colleagues in the Adult and Community Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy teams.
