Full Job Description
We have a great opportunity at MYTT to welcome a new band 6 Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) in to our busy acute service via our band 5-6 development framework.
Prospective candidates are welcome to visit or discuss further. You will have completed NQSLT competencies and be working autonomously with a dysphagia caseload.
This is a career enhancing opportunity for an experienced, suitably qualified, skilled and dynamic SLT. The post holder is required to be an autonomous and motivated individual who is keen to further their skills and development through self-led learning and reflection.
The post holder will work with a team of talented SLTs and the clinical lead who will provide day to day line management, support and monthly supervision. We have weekly complex case review meetings, MDT presence, and joint working opportunities.
Our patients access VF clinic and we have a FEES service in development that is currently accepting a small number of referrals.
Patients can be referred to our own community SLT service. We also have strong links with neighbouring community Trusts.
We have an established and experienced SLT leadership team consisting of a SLT Service Lead, SLT Team Lead and a range of Clinical Leads who specialise across stroke, ICU and respiratory, LTC, dementia and elderly, H&N, voice and community specialisms.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will work across a range of wards at Pinderfields Hospital and Dewsbury & District Hospital; including frailty, dementia, respiratory, spinals, oncology and admissions for example; providing a great opportunity to work with a range of conditions and MDT experiences.
The post holder will provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment and review, and onward referral of patients, who have dementia, cancer, respiratory disease, neurological conditions or other conditions which cause swallow and communication impairments. The post holder will engage with huddles and regular clinical and service meetings to optimise patient care.
The post holder will develop their leadership, professional and specialist clinical skills and knowledge through a supported and structured framework with a view to converting to full band 6 SLT duties within 6-11 months.
Our band 6 SLT colleagues' role include clinical prioritisation and caseload oversight, finding solutions and identifying areas for improvement, providing specialist level clinical advice and guidance to colleagues and the MDT, supervising and supporting junior colleagues and students and leading with or contributing to service developments, SOPs and audits, plus developing and providing Trust wide training.
All SLT colleagues in the team receive ringfenced time for MAST and CPD, plus access to regular supervision.
