Are you looking to develop specialist SLT skills in acute stroke, neurosurgery and major trauma? Would you like to work as part of a well-resourced, experienced and highly skilled SLT team in a Major Trauma Centre and a regional centre of excellence for neurosciences? This is a newly created two part rotation post with both posts currently vacant. One post is in the Hyper-acute and acute stroke team which provides acute stroke services for the population of Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG), along with regional provision to the wider Severn Region and beyond. The other post is in the Hyper-Acute Rehab Team which provides early, specialist assessment and rehabilitation for patients with complex needs resulting from neuro-trauma in the acute phase of their rehab. You would work as a core member of the HASU/ASU and HART multi-disciplinary teams and receive supervision and support from band 7 SLTs within those teams. We have excellent access to videofluoroscopy and FEES and can provide training in these assessments, and tracheostomy management within trust. We are looking for two people who are keen to develop further in the areas of neurosciences and who are passionate about working with both communication and swallowing disorders in these caseloads., To provide specialist speech and language therapy (SLT) assessment, diagnosis and treatment to adults with communication and swallowing difficulties following stroke or neurosurgical conditions This is a two part rotation post which covers the Hyper-acute and Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) and the Hyperacute Rehab Team (HART). Where necessary the post may involve clinical cover in other areas ie medical/complex care wards, critical care or outpatients To manage an inpatient or outpatient caseload as appropriate To work as a core member of the HASU/ASU or HART multi-disciplinary teams To liaise about patients with the multidisciplinary hospital team and relevant primary care professionals and agencies as appropriate. If working with patients in critical care or high dependency beds, to manage patients with tracheostomy or ventilator dependence To pursue and acquire ongoing knowledge and expertise for practice with adults with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties. To be a member of the specialist SLT team providing assessment, advice and rehabilitation services to adults with communication and swallowing difficulties as a result of stroke, acquired neurological diseases, neurosurgical procedures, medical decline and other long-term conditions.
