Full Job Description
This post is providing a specialist SLT service to a designated caseload of children with complex speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) attending special school in Harrow. They will also carry a small mainstream schools caseload. They will be expected to manage their own caseload, working alongside teaching staff to ensure specialist therapy programmes and education plans are in place for the children under their care. They will be expected to work collaboratively with children/young people (CYP), parents/ carers and with colleagues in Health, Education and Social Services., To manage a specialist caseload of school aged children with complex SLCN in special school and a small number of mainstream schools. In this post you will have the opportunity to develop skills in working with eating, drinking and swallowing (EDS) difficulties. This includes:
- Gaining appropriate consent
- Comprehensive assessment and differential diagnosis of individual children with diverse and complex presentations using a range of specialist assessments/techniques
- Planning, delivering and evaluating specialist treatment programmes
- Referring on to other services/professionals as appropriate including EPS, CAMHS, OT
- Demonstrating skills in dealing with complex issues to generate appropriate strategies for caseload management
- Negotiating with CYP parents/carers, and others around individual case management
- Writing reports reflecting specialist knowledge of school age children and providing specific advice for statutory assessment of special educational needs. About us We are:
