Full Job Description

An experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated speech and language therapist is required to provide a specialist service to children supported by the Luton Youth Justice partnership and partner agencies.

Based within Bedfordshire Speech and Language Therapy service but working in partnership with the YJT, you will provide assessment, diagnosis and support for a wide range of communication difficulties within this client group.

You will support staff within the YJT to develop their communication skills with this client group, raising awareness of SLCN and develop strategies for supporting the range of communication difficulties presented by young people on this caseload.

The successful candidate will also have a role in contributing to the development of services in this area, in conjunction with YOS staff.

We encourage the development of skills and interests to meet the needs of the service and staff., Be responsible for the overall delivery of SLT interventions by this part of the service

Ensure that the service to young people known to the YPS is effective and co-ordinated through the implementation of evidence based practice, clinical governance programmes and monitoring and evaluation.

Ensure effective partnership working across agencies for this part of the service

Use highly specialist clinical skills to manage a specialist caseload of children with a range of communication difficulties. To identify caseload, assess and diagnose communication impairments and select appropriate management for effective treatment.

Take a clinical lead role in service development in this area, including identifying the types of communication disorders found in the young people in contact with the YPS

Have a specialist advisory role for the Trust in this specialty area

To undertake training of YPS staff and partner agencies where identified and required.

Raise awareness within the YPS of the types of communication difficulties faced by the young people and to offer strategies to facilitate their communication

In conjunction with YPS management team, develop and implement policies relating to SLT and YPS developments

Facilitate access to mainstream services as appropriate
