Full Job Description

To provide specialist Occupational Therapy to stroke patients across a 7 day service
To be responsible for management of own caseload and provide a high-quality efficient service to stroke patients throughout the hospital, managing attendance of board rounds and ward meetings to contribute significantly to patient flow supported by experienced band 7 therapists.
To assess stroke patients with cognitive impairments and develop treatment plans. This will include supporting the wider MDT in the delivery of treatment plans.
To continually develop your knowledge and practice to provide patient focussed care that is evidence based, sharing this with colleagues and the wider MDT where appropriate.
To clinically supervise and guide the professional work of less experienced therapy staff and students as appropriate, while complying with professional and departmental standards of practice.
Contribute to the support of staff and students from other professions.
To be an integral member of the Stroke Therapy Team, contributing to the management of the staff and service, with regard for all aspects of clinical governance, and to deputise for senior staff as required.
To work closely with Physiotherapy colleagues to provide joint therapy assessments and treatment plans enabling efficient use of Therapy Team resources.

Build safe working knowledge of all equipment used to provide safe patient care and participate in maintenance and training
Supporting Clinical and Patient Excellence
To work within the stroke therapy team to provide excellent Occupational Therapy care, applying specialised skills and knowledge.
To increase and expand knowledge base and experience, clinically and non-clinically
To undertake a comprehensive neurological assessment including cognitive assessments of patients using advanced clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques to provide an appropriate clinical treatment plan.
Contribute to the formulation and delivery of a holistic rehabilitation programme based on sound knowledge of evidence-based practise and treatment options working alongside other professions.
To represent the therapy service and/or individual patients at multidisciplinary team meetings. This will include discussion of patient care, progress and involvement in discharge planning.
To provide spontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction to colleagues, relatives and carers when appropriate to promote understanding of the aims of Therapy
Ensure compliance with the Trust's health and safety, infection prevention, risk management and any other relevant policies and procedures and to establish and maintain safe systems of work within the work area.
Submit accurate timesheets within set department timescales for additional hours worked.
To demonstrate a very high standard of verbal and non-verbal communication to exchange, often sensitive, and accurate information in a variety of settings and with varied individuals and to provide comprehensive reports both verbal and written to the relevant referring agency and MDT members.
To utilise all training and development opportunities and prepare for supervision and appraisals appropriately in order to develop knowledge, skills and awareness within the clinical area, service and trust.
Advanced skills and knowledge of equipment provision

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Stroke Therapy team at Northampton General Hospital. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced Occupational Therapist with a specialist interest in stroke to join our team as a band 6.
This is a full time role working within a hyper acute stroke unit[INS: :INS] and rehab ward working closely with the community stroke services. The applicant will be expected to work across the trust providing specialist neurological[INS: :INS] assessment and treatment to [DEL: s :DEL] troke patients.
The applicant will be required to support the 7 day working pattern within stroke and will be rostered to work weekends.
We are looking for someone with excellent clinical, communication and interpersonal skills along with a good understanding of neurological assessment, cognitive assessments and treatment techniques.
Applicants will be expected to participate in audit projects, and must also demonstrate a strong commitment to the teaching and training of undergraduate therapists., Advanced skills in planning and carrying out access/home visits.
