Full Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and qualified Specialist Study Skills Tutor to join the University's Study Skills Service, situated within the broader Library, Archive and Study Skills team, to provide support to students: primarily those who have been identified and confirmed as having a Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD) or Autism Spectrum Condition (ASCs). The role will provide high quality, one-to-one tutoring to students, informed by specialist knowledge of specific learning difficulties (SpLDs)., In this role, you'll be based in the broader Library, Archive and Study Skills team team, on our green campus in the north of Plymouth.

Our current hybrid working policy means you can work from home or on campus, but you will be required to maintain strong campus links and be available on-site at least 2 days per week (with flexibility required).

The successful applicant will need to have the minimum qualifications and knowledge to qualify as an approved Non-Medical Helper (NMH) in Specialist Study Skills. These criteria are:

1. Educated to degree standard or equivalent
2. Hold a teaching qualification (min level 4)
3. Member of a relevant professional body (NMH guidelines approved body for Specialist Study Skills tutors)
4. Attended comprehensive training in adult autism (e.g., NAS core autism online training or attended training by qualified NAS trainer)

Please refer to the latest Student Finance England guidance on appropriate qualifications and membership for DSA funded NMH Practitioners. Relevant experience supporting students with SpLDs and ASCs in a 1:1 situation, within post-16 or higher education is essential and the successful applicant will work in regular collaboration with the University's Disability and Inclusion Advice Service (DIAS).
