Full Job Description

Based within Learning Services at the University of South Wales, the Student Development and Study Skills (SDSS) service provides academic and study skills support for USW students. The team of Specialist Study Skills Tutors, while working alongside others within SDSS, deliver one- to-one tutorial support to students with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs) and other disabilities.

Responsibilities include developing and implementing individual programmes of one-to-one study skills tutorials to students with a variety of learning needs, whilst also assessing progress and reviewing the effectiveness of such support.

This role provides the opportunity to deliver sessions in line with relevant legislation and best practice. Therefore, candidates must fulfil the DSA-QAF mandatory professional body requirements for supporting students with SpLDs. It is also advantageous to meet the training requirements for working with students with Autism Spectrum Condition.

The Specialist Study Skills Tutor is expected to be professional, resilient, and collegial, and work flexibly and efficiently to build trusting relationships with the students who receive support.

Maintaining confidentiality and excellent record keeping are also key skills integral to the effectiveness of this role.

If you're a Welsh learner or a Welsh speaker, we'd be delighted to receive your application. At USW, you'll have access to Welsh courses to enable you to develop your Welsh skills further, in order to provide a bilingual service to our students, colleagues and the public., We welcome applications in Welsh and English. Applications in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than those made in English.

This is a fixed-term, hourly paid position with hours of work that can fluctuate throughout the year.

If you are a successful candidate and this position will be your first professional services role at the University (or you are currently employed by PSS Ltd), you will be employed by Professional and Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of South Wales, which provides services to the University and Colleges.
