Full Job Description

We are looking for enthusiastic and committed individuals to become part of the Hearing and Vision Specialist Service, part of Stockport Council Childrens' Education Services, to support the development, learning and inclusion of deaf children and young people who use either speaking and listening and/or BSL signed communication. We would like the successful candidates to be able to start as soon as possible.

The role is within a team providing specialist deaf education and family support for deaf children and young people and includes working 1-1 and in small groups, both in and out of classroom settings. This may or may not include the provision of BSL signed communication support, depending on the communication preferences and needs of the children.

Candidates must be able to clearly demonstrate a keen aspiration to specifically work with deaf children and young people in the specialist deaf education sector. We welcome and will consider applications from candidates who are not experienced in deaf education, but who have a basic background knowledge or strong interest in working with deaf children and young people. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, including a minimum of British Sign Language level 2. We welcome applicants who are deaf or hearing.

The post will be mainly based at either our primary or secondary school resourced provision for deaf children/young people. You would be supported in your role by a warm and friendly team: Team leader, Specialist Teachers of Deaf Children and Young People and other Specialist Teaching Assistants. Further professional development opportunities, guidance. and training are provided. Post Two: 3 days a week (21 Hours, Part Time) - this post can potentially be made a 2 day (14.5 Hours, Part Time). Includes a paid Wed staff meeting to 5pm. Term time only
