Full Job Description
The Specialist Teaching Assistant will be part of a team of specialist teachers and teaching assistants, and a Habilitation Specialist, so must be able to work in close collaboration to help support vision impaired children and young people access the wider curriculum in schools and settings.
The successful candidate be expected to produce personalised adapted learning materials and deliver some programmes in schools to pupils learning Braille and tactile skills. They will also be expected to develop knowledge and skills on specialist assistive technology, manage the inventory of specialist equipment and organise the purchasing and delivery of resources.
This is a part time position, hours and flexible working to be discussed at interview.
About You
We are looking for a candidate who:
Has extensive knowledge of IT systems, especially those in use in schools in Lincolnshire, so that they are able to collaborate with schools in order to integrate specialist equipment with the schools' IT systems.
Is willing to research specialist assistive technology used with vision impaired people, keeping up with new developments, and to collaborate with teachers of the vision impaired in determining which equipment is most suitable to support an individual's learning.
Has some knowledge of Unified English Braille (UEB) and be able to use Duxbury software and a braille embosser to produce learning materials in braille.
Is able to produce personalised tactile learning materials by 'low-tech' means (glue-gun, cardboard, fabrics etc) and produce modified and enlarged printed materials under the direction of teachers of the vision impaired. Knowledge of RNIB Bookshare will be an advantage.
Is willing to undergo training to learn these skills
