Full Job Description

We are recruiting for a Specialist Thrive Mental Health Midwife who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.
The post holder will provide clinical midwifery expertise for the Thrive service for perinatal loss and / or birth trauma. They will provide a maternity perspective to inform discussions and therapeutic interventions.
The Thrive service is provided jointly by the Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust (KMPT) as the mental health provider trust, and by the Acute Hospital Trusts, who employ the Specialist Mental Health Midwife., Support, assist and advise those who have been referred to Thrive, following perinatal loss and / or birth trauma.
Work collaboratively with the Thrive Therapist when more complex input is required.
Teach parents about attachment, reactions to loss, and about ways in which to manage emotion and distress.
Support parents in preparation for more in depth therapies such as Trauma-Focused CBT (TFCBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, as required.
Participate in Thrive referral and Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings to ensure those using the service receive the most appropriate care and treatment.
Liaise with the other health care professionals and partnership agencies as required, to ensure those using the service with severe trauma are receiving effective care and support.
Work closely with the Maternity workforce to ensure that they understand services available to support families following perinatal loss and / or birth trauma.
Support the system to deliver psychologically informed maternity care, to enable them to provide holistic care that optimises mental health, mental wellbeing as well as physical health.
Contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring and review of relevant policies and processes, working with a range of professionals, services and partner agencies.

Support, assist and advise former or current patients and their families who have experienced psychological trauma arising from their birth experience and/or perinatal loss.
Develop individual care plans, screen for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and step up for psychological intervention as required.
Make referrals for additional specialist support, where required.
Act as the main point of liaison between Maternity Services and Thrive.
Co-ordinate care for those using the service, and advocate for their psychological needs and choices.
Offer clinical expertise in relation to birth trauma and perinatal loss.
Deliver psychoeducation to those using the service about attachment, trauma responses, reactions to loss, and about ways in which to manage emotion and distress.
Support readiness for more in depth therapies, e.g. EMDR and TF-CBT.
Participate in Thrive referral and MDT meetings.
Act as an advocate for pregnant people to seek to ensure that they get the emotional support within maternity services that they need.
Liaise with the safeguarding midwives, bereavement midwives, perinatal mental health midwives, mental health services including the Perinatal Mental Health Community Service (PMHCS), and partner agencies regarding care provision.
Provide accurate and timely records on patient care and performance using paper and IT based systems.
Ensure commitment to personal and team training, alongside development of the service.

Salary: £46,148 - £52,809 per annum/pro rata
