Full Job Description

In this role, you will support the public health consultant with developing public health's strategic priorities for improving the mental wellbeing of people across Essex, developing and implementing a plan of evidenced based interventions that will deliver those priorities.

This will involve building relationships and working in collaboration (for example with, but not limited to Regional Commissioning Leads, District/Borough/City Councils, Community Safety Partnerships, Mental Health Service commissioners and providers, children and families ECC directorate and adult social care ECC directorate, NHS) to deliver levels of integrated activity, and to identify any further opportunities and efficiencies across organisations and to improve impact for the benefit of people with multiple disadvantage.

  • Educated to degree level and/or appropriate professional qualification relevant to the field or equivalent by experience, with specialist knowledge of substance misuse treatment, governance, procedures and practices across substance misuse field.

  • Proven track record of successfully delivering outcomes.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately and to inspire and gain the confidence and participation with a range of internal and external stakeholders and engagement partners. of a wide range of stakeholders.

  • Knowledge and experience of all aspects of the commissioning cycle, project life cycle and related activities gained within a commissioning environment.

  • Experience of delivery of public services and managing change in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.

  • Experience of working in a political environment, working effectively with members and senior officers across the council and partner agencies.


  • Please note that the job role requires you to be mobile throughout an operational area. Therefore, the post holder will need to have a driving licence and access to a vehicle, or the ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means.
