Full Job Description

We are looking for a dedicated candidate for the post of Specialty Doctor/Dentist in Oral Medicine. This part-time substantive position will provide the successful candidate with asound introduction to clinical Oral Medicine and provide additional insight into the influence of systemic disease on oral mucosal disease., The Unit works closely with Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the other dental specialties within the dental hospital. Additionally, it has close links with the departments of Rheumatology, Dermatology, Ear Nose and Throat, Haem-Oncology, Gastroenterology and Genito-Urinary Medicine within the Trust. The Unit is well supported by an enthusiastic nursing and management team. Specialist interests include Sjgren's Syndrome, Behcet's disease, dysplasia, oral manifestations of systemic disease and autoimmune muco-cutaneous disorders. The service currently has multidisciplinary clinics involved in the delivery of the Behcet's Centre of Excellence, Sjogren's syndrome and more recently a dysplasia MDT clinic with OMFS and newly appointed CNS.,

  • Full registration with the General Dental Council, and General Medical Council if additionally, medically qualified.

    Minimum two years full-time service since first obtaining registration, ideally including adequate experience as a DFY2/SHO or a higher grade in Oral Medicine, Oral Surgery or Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

  • Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS), or equivalent
  • Distinctions and prizes in undergraduate education

  • Satisfactory completion of vocational and general professional training
  • Experience in range of clinical procedures in Oral Medicine including biopsy and venepuncture
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Desirable
  • Experience & management of oral medicine patients with systemic disease
  • Knowledge Essential

  • Willingness to take responsibility
  • Able to work unsupervised
  • Flexible and co-operative with colleagues

  • IT skills including MS office applications, web skills, etc, Ability to communicate effectively with GDPs, GPs, Consultants and other professionals in hospital and community
