You will have full registration with the GMC and ideally be approved, or eligible for approval, under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act. The primary role will be to provide senior medical input to assessments and care of community patients aged 65 years and above. You will provide expertise and clinical decision making and oversee the mental and physical health care of patients on our caseload. Supported by the Consultant Psychiatrist and the multidisciplinary team you will develop risk assessments and management plans to facilitate maximum empowerment of the service user and carer in informed choice of treatment interventions. The post holder for the Solihull Community Mental Health Team for older adults will be based at the Maple Leaf Centre, 2 Maple Leaf Drive, Marston Green, Solihull, B37 7JB. Welcome to Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. Our 4000 clinical and support staff help us to improve mental health wellbeing and meet the needs of the 70,000 people we serve each year. We provide a range of mental healthcare services across Birmingham and Solihull, as well as specialised services nationally. We also offer medical, nursing and psychology training and are proud of our international reputation for both research and innovation. Our population is culturally diverse, characterised in places by high levels of deprivation which create an increasing demand for our services and a necessity for us to make sure everyone can access the help they need. We are a team of compassionate, inclusive and committed people working together to provide excellent care to support our community. If you are looking for a place to belong, where you can make a real difference to people's lives, join our team where our warm welcome is waiting for you. With hands on support from consultant colleagues, you will be encouraged to develop specialist interests and participate in continuous professional development, audit, research and teaching. This is a great opportunity for experienced psychiatrists, looking to make the next move in their career. This great opportunity will provide:

  • Personalised portfolio
  • Access to the RCPsych's CPD Online
  • Support in gaining research competencies
  • 1.5 SPA sessions per week
  • Involvement in our academic programme and teaching
  • Regular clinical supervision & separate CESR mentor if required

We are looking for someone with confidence to work autonomously and with and an appreciation of the opportunities and challenges of working within culturally diverse areas of Birmingham. You will be a senior and experienced clinician, with a minimum of at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be within a psychiatry training programme or as a fixed term specialty trainee within psychiatry; or have equivalent experience and competences.
  • It is essential you should also have had at least one year working within old age psychiatry and evidence of CPD orientated at working with older people.
