Full Job Description
The Trust is seeking a specialty doctor in general adult psychiatry to join The Bolton Assessment Service based at the Rivington Unit, Royal Bolton Hospital. This vacancy is an existing post which has arisen after the previous post holder moved to another post.
The post holder will work closely with the Consultant and other team colleagues in the Bolton Assessment Service to develop a high quality, responsive, flexible and integrated service meeting the needs of its client group.
· Have knowledge and skills in the assessment of patients presenting with mental health disorders.
· To be able to assess, formulate and manage risk (e.g. suicide risk, violence/aggression) relating to psychiatric conditions in outpatient settings.
· To be able to formulate management plans in complex cases, advising the MDT.
· Prescribing and giving advice to the team on psychotropic medication.
· Have knowledge and skills in using both The Mental Health and Mental Capacity Acts and be able to give advice to others about the use of the acts.
To have an understanding the interface between physical illness and mental illness (e.g. comorbid mood disorders, medically unexplained symptoms, organic mental states).
· The post holder may occasionally be called upon to do a physical health examination and perform venepuncture and ECGs and be able to interpret the results.
· To be able to seek advice and support of senior psychiatric colleagues when dealing with complex situations outside of the postholders sphere of knowledge and skills.
· Maintain high quality medical records for patients being treated by the service, and provide high quality, timely communication with other health and social care practitioners.
· Participate fully in clinical meetings within the service.
