Full Job Description

One year fixed term contract for a Specialty Doctor in Paediatric BMT and Immunology at Great Ormond Street Hospital London

The post is for 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) and is an NHS salaried position.

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic trained paediatrician with experience in paediatric BMT, CAR-T cell therapy and Immunology who will join and support the existing teams to provide ward based care across the International and Private Care Directorate and the BMT & CAR-T Unit and the Immunology and Gene Therapy Department. The post will rotate across the NHS and private wards and the appointee will join a team of four existing Specialty Doctors. We have a very active BMT unit, which is the largest in the UK and one of the largest in Europe, performing 70-80 allogeneic procedures, and 10-15 CAR-T cell procedures each year. The Immunology service is similarly busy and sees patients with severe immunodeficiencies or requiring gene therapy or thymus transplant.

The post will rotate though the dedicated wards across the NHS and fee-paying wards. Specific time is also allocated for research., This is initially a one-year fixed term contract and is designed for a trained paediatrician with experience in paediatric BMT, CAR-T cell therapy and Immunology. It is expected that the appointee will be at ST7 or ST8 equivalent and already working at a senior level with the capability to work autonomously and with only moderate supervision. The post will rotate across the whole of the BMT and Immunology service, seeing both private and NHS patients. When working on the private wards the post-holder will be working in close collaboration with the I&PC consultant (currently Dr Shaista Sattar) and will provide senior cover when the I&PC consultant is away.

The post holder provides senior medical supervision of both the BMT/CAR-T and Immunology inpatients, outpatient and day-cases. When not on in-patient service the appointee will be expected to conduct high quality clinical/scientific research/teaching in BMT, CAR-T and Immunology.
