Full Job Description

Are you an outstanding Junior Doctor looking for a new challenge with better career prospects? Join North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust as a Specialty Doctor in Critical Care Medicine. You will be working alongside our supportive and progressive team to deliver high-quality care to our local communities. This position will be located at Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon. As a senior member of staff, you will be able to function with greater independence and autonomy. A mentor will be assigned to assist you in navigating the role and exploring potential future opportunities. We are committed to providing our staff with high-quality training and education. Therefore, we offer a 30-day study leave per three-year cycle, which will help you develop specialised interests and pursue research opportunities. We operate with flexibility and are willing to accommodate special requests and interests upon discussion. If you would like to perform exclusively critical care duties, we will offer you the opportunity to spend entire clinical time at the Critical Care Unit. The main duties of the post are focused on the management of patients in the critical care units and associated areas at the level of Junior registrar/ ST3 equivalent or above. As a Specialty Doctor, you will provide independent immediate care to critically ill patients including managing airways emergencies with support from on call team. Critical care duties are organised on a rolling 1:8 rota. Elective lists are programmed into the 8-week cycle. You will ensure that arrangements are in place for staff to contact you in emergency situations. You will be expected to contribute fully to the teaching, training and other educational activities within the Critical Care Unit, as well as attending and contributing to clinical governance and audit activities. North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust provides acute care to our local communities via two District General Hospitals in Peterborough and Huntingdon, and a community hospital in Stamford. We are promoting flexible working and a health work/home life balance. Agile working options are automatically considered for all roles within the Trust.

We welcome and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds. We particularly encourage applications from disabled, Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) and candidates from our local communities. Your package with us includes a lot more than just your pay and here are a few of the additional benefits that are available to you as an employee:

  • Relocation allowance in line with the Trust policy
  • Career development and training opportunities
  • Free staff car parking on all our hospital sites during this financial year
  • Access to the NHS Pension Scheme
  • Generous Holiday Entitlement, starting at 27 days a year (for full time workers) plus bank/public holidays

  • Subsidised meals at our hospital restaurants
  • Access to exclusive discounts, cashback and vouchers via NHS Discounts and Blue Light Card
  • The post-holder will participate in a rota providing resident middle grade cover to the Theatres including emergencies and obstetrics on weekdays, and on nights seven days a week. The remainder of the contracted hours will be spent in elective theatre lists and undertaking supporting professional activities. Further development of specialist interests will be supported through study leave (30 days per 3-year cycle).
