Applications are invited for the post of Specialty Doctor in Eldercare at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust. Applications are invited from enthusiastic and dynamic individuals who are interested in assisting with the expansion of the Older Person's Service from the Royal Cornwall Hospital in all localities in Cornwall. The Cornwall Frailty Pathway and Stroke Services are in the process of rapid change following significant investment. New opportunities to work sessions across the system from acute hospitals to community hospitals are available in any area of interest. The posts are already supported by a large, friendly, progressive Older Person's Service who is forward thinking, passionate and caring. The consultant team work alongside our exceptional team of nurses, allied health professionals, community partners and old age psychiatrists to deliver the very best multi-disciplinary care to our community. The department is dedicated to providing a first class service where the patient and relatives come first. The Eldercare team is dedicated to providing a first-class service where the patient and relatives come first. The Eldercare team take a proactive approach to teaching and innovation as well as collaboration with partners in the community and primary care - your chance to take a lead in forging pioneering new approaches in care of older people. Main duties of the job The post holder will provide clinical cover for the in-patient wards and also work as an integral part of a Front Door Frailty Team in the Emergency Department. Patients have a range of needs from simple rehabilitation to higher acuity and dependency. The post holder will require strong communication skills and be required to work closely with both acute geriatrician teams and the primary and community locality teams, supporting advanced care planning and care pathways for the patients, carers and their families. The role will provide clinical support and leadership to the multi-disciplinary team as well as supervision to junior medical staff and an aptitude for teaching or previous trainer status would be highly desirable., The Trust employs 5,000+ staff, has a budget of £380 million and 750 beds We work with health and social care organisations -including NHS Kernow and NHS England- to ensure local healthcare needs are met.     GMC Registration with a Full Licence to Practice. MBChB MRCP.
  • Experience Essential
  • Working with Acute Stroke and Eldercare patients. Experience of working in the UK. Teaching (Medical students, peers, MDT). Experienced in Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance and the benefits of how this improves the quality of care provided to patients and ensuring this is embedded in clinical practice.
  • Practical and Intellectual Skills Essential
  • Strong clinical and personal credibility. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills adapts style depending on audience. Excellent IT skills.
  • Conceptual and analytical skills. Speak fluent English to at least I.E.L.R.S level 7.5.
  • Disposition, Adjustment and Attitude Essential
  • Flexible in approach and able to adapt quickly to changing priorities. Able to operate as a change agent and ability to work collaboratively with peers, MDT. Attention to detail in all professional tasks.
  • Additional Circumstances Essential
  • A Disclosure and Barring Service record check satisfactory to the organisation. Current and valid visa to allow work in the UK. Occupational health clearance. Receipt of two satisfactory references. To live no more than 30 minutes travel from hospital if an on-call rota is category A. The post-holder must have access to their own transport and the ability to travel within and outside of the county, sometimes at short notice, when required.
