Milton Keynes Mental Health Services Specialty Doctor - TOPAS 6 Sessions Applications are invited for Specialty Doctor to join The older Person's Assesment Services (Topas) based at Milton Keynes You will be part of a medical team consisting of a Consultant Psychiatrist and up to two Trainee Doctors. The Post holder will receive one to one supervision from Consultant, annual appraisal and allowance for both annual and study leave. Currently there are no on-calls. Any future changes to this arrangement will be discussed with post-holder The team at TOPAS also work closely with the Specialist Memory Service (SMS) and the Healthy Ageing Service (HAS) team in the community. TOPAS has access to support from the Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team (CRHTT) to support early discharges for functional patients.,

  • Initial assessment, investigation and management of patients for their mental health issues
  • Follow up of patients to monitor the progress
  • Comprehensive review of notes, making detailed and accurate but concise summaries of very complex mental health histories
  • Initiating Psychotropic medications and titrating whilst monitoring for side effects and physical parameters
  • Liaison with other teams, or other medical specialties to determine better treatment outcome
  • Comprehensive electronic documentation of sufficient standard and good communication with primary care services, other secondary mental health services and medical specialties
  • Carry out domiciliary visits with colleagues
  • Attend in-patient unit TOPAS to support with in-patient elderly care as required.

    The successful candidate will be highly motivated, energetic and passionate about delivering high quality care to older adult patients. Candidate will have good knowledge of Physical and mental health conditions along with Mental Health Act 1983.
  • The post-holder will share the ward duties with other medics in the team and will support the trainees with their development as well as contribute to cover when the consultant is on leave. Applicants should have experience of team working, possess sound organisation skills and be able to work on their own initiative. Effective communication, compassion and empathy are essential skills for this role.
