Full Job Description

You will be part of an innovative and dynamic team that both encourages and supports their staff to deliver high quality care. The department is well supported by an enthusiastic and dedicated team of Dental Care Professionals. The modern surgeries are in a self-contained department within the main part of the hospital. Warrington and Halton is centrally located between Liverpool and Manchester and with its excellent transport links is an excellent place to live.
The post-holder will work principally in the Oral and Maxillofacial department and will be responsible to the Medical Director, Clinical Director, Clinical Lead and Oral and Maxillofacial Consultants.
The appointee will be expected to liaise with colleagues in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Orthodontics as well as other specialties within the Trust and the wider Oral and Maxillofacial regional network.
The post holder will be expected to be able to work independently without direct on-site supervision on both the Warrington and Halton sites. Duties will include day case operating lists and minor oral surgery under local anaesthetic and intravenous sedation. The post holder will also carry out Outpatient Clinics for consultation and review.
There is no on call cover required for this post., To participate in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery procedures under local anaesthesia, conscious sedation and general anaesthetic for both adults and paediatric patients. All procedures undertaken must be within the scope of the clinicians clinical practice.
To participate in providing an Oral and Maxillofacial in hospital service where appropriate to other medical and surgical specialities when requested. This will also includes liaising with the regional Oral Maxillofacial service to help diagnosis and manage local Oral and Maxillofacial emergencies.
To participate in daytime emergency cover and provision of acute surgical procedures as required, in conjunction with other senior clinicians.
To participate in the training and continuing education of auxiliary department staff and other hospital staff.
Together with the consultants and other speciality doctors the post holder is required to have continuing responsibility for the care of patients.
The post-holder will be expected to engage in their own continuing professional development and to provide continuing dental education for other staff.
All clinical staff are accountable and responsible for their own clinical competence and should limit their activity to that which is deemed to be within their competence.
Appointees will be expected to engage with annual appraisal and ensure that their Mandatory training is up to date.

Completed 4 years full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) since first obtaining primary registration including adequate experience in Oral Surgery
Gained and can demonstrate experience and competencies in Oral Surgery
Ability to undertake independent theatre sessions in oral surgery
Experience in the assessment and management of patients referred for treatment under sedation
Experience in the assessment and management of paediatric and adult patients requiring treatment within the surgical and orthodontic interface
Experience in the assessment and management of routine Oral and Maxillofacial pathology
Previous oncall experience covering hospital Oral and Maxillofacial patients and in hospital referrals.
Experience in the assessment and management of routine Oral Medicine pathology
Effective participation in clinical audit
Experience in organising and leading best interest meetings
Additional degree/diploma (MSc, MOS)
QUALIFICATIONS
Full Registration with licence to practice with the General Dental Council (GDC).
MJFD/MFDS or equivalent
Entry on the GDC Specialist list
ILS
IACSD recognised sedation qualification
