Full Job Description
This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic Department of Geriatrics. We are looking for enthusiastic, positive individuals with a commitment to improving the care given to frail elderly patients.
The over-riding purpose is to support the provision of the highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement.
The post-holder will work closely with the Orthogeriatricians and the Orthopaedic team in order to ensure that elderly patients with fragility fractures are seen and managed in a timely and appropriate manner.
This will involve making sure that patients with hip fractures receive care in accordance with the Best Practice Tariff, as well as on-going medical input throughout their admission including pre-operative optimisation. We also review frail, elderly patients with minimal trauma fractures including rib fractures.
There is an Orthopaedic junior doctor allocated each morning to support the Orthogeriatric service.
The post-holder is expected to have an understanding of current guidelines for the management of falls and the role of Orthogeriatrics in providing input to elderly patients with hip fractures eg. The 'Blue Book', NICE guidelines. It is expected the successful applicant will keep up to date with current and changing practice regarding bone health., 1. The post holder will be required to provide a comprehensive medical service to the inpatients, undertaking ward rounds, dealing with referrals, implementing plans and ensuring they are actioned.
2. You will be required to attend the morning trauma meeting, Monday - Friday.
3. The post holder will undertake to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
4. To actively participate in audit/teaching and research activities within the department.
5. Liaise with the multidisciplinary team regarding patient care, including attendance and participation at relevant board rounds, MDT meetings and governance meetings.
6. There may be occasions where you are required to undertake similar duties at other hospitals within the Sherwood Forest hospitals NHS Trust (although this would be rare).
7. Perform administrative work in a timely manner.
8. You will be expected to comply with the Royal College requirements for undertaking CMPD and to participate in the trusts appraisal system as appropriate.
9. So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of the above duties, the post holder undertakes to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues.
