Full Job Description

We are pleased to offer a fixed term 0.15 WTE specialty doctor post within the City & Hackney Women's Health Hub service until 31/3/25. The post is suitable for a GP with an interest in community-based women's health or a specialist doctor in SRH or gynaecology. This is a part-time post (1.5 Professional Activities / 6 hours per week). It includes delivery of women's health care in a General Practice or community setting and neighbourhood level support for women's health.

  • To provide patient-centred holistic care to women referred to the Women's Health Hub service
  • To conduct minor procedures such as insertion of Longer Acting Methods of Contraception, or pipelle biopsy as required, and appropriate to skills base.
  • To provide clinical care within a group consultation setting in different aspects of women's reproductive health, as this service evolves.
  • To support identification of priorities and community engagement in partnership with Primary Care Networks to address local inequalities in women's health
  • To provide educational sessions for primary care and other health services to raise awareness of the service and support education in women's health
  • To develop clinical pathways for the service ensuring smooth running within the service and linking effectively with Homerton gynaecology and other associated services.
  • WOMEN'S HEALTH HUB The service is part of Homerton Healthcare's Women's Health division, but is an interface service which aims to integrate with primary care, and other community services to serve the whole of City and Hackney, including through:
  • Clinics based at the main hub (Ivy, St Leonards) and PCN hubs co-located with GP practices/community sites
  • Patient engagement events and group consultations
  • Education and training for primary care and other healthcare professionals
  • Community engagement
  • This service has evolved from the original Community Gynaecology service which previously operated solely from the Ivy Centre at St Leonard's Hospital. Referrals include a wide range of conditions including menstrual problems, menopause and vulvovaginal conditions. Minor procedures such as insertion of intrauterine devices, pipelle biopsy and polypectomy are conducted as well as basic ultrasound scanning. There is a programme of education and engagement to enable clinicians to build confidence in managing women's health conditions and to ensure women are empowered to manage their conditions and seek help when needed. The service aims to increasingly work with PCNs and the community to identify and prioritise inequalities, and trial approaches to addressing them. There are good working relationships between the clinical team, local GPs, local & regional O&G colleagues.,
  • To ensure the service is operationally effective and to liaise with the Health Care Assistant and Project Manager to ensure smooth running of the service.
  • To be aware of the limitations of your personal knowledge and skills and to consult with senior colleagues when appropriate.
  • To keep detailed accurate and contemporaneous clinical notes and prescribe in accordance with protocols developed together with pharmacy colleagues.
  • To respect the abilities of other clinic staff and to encourage them to develop and maintain new practical skills, so supporting a multidisciplinary approach
  • To attend departmental meetings where possible and contribute to/engage with their content as appropriate.
  • To participate in regular clinical supervision to discuss patient management strategies and learn from other members of the team
  • To contribute to the design and uptake of bespoke training opportunities to upskill in areas of women's health where needed
  • To work within the guidelines and protocols of the Department and to the national guidance of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health and other bodies
  • To commit to obtaining relevant national qualifications that support the delivery of a specialist women's health service such as letters of competence in SDI and IUT and educational techniques
  • To teach (and assess) the various visiting health care professionals / students / trainees attending the Women's Health Hub service
  • To deputise for the consultant lead for the service during clinics and support the nursing and other medical staff with clinical decisions and planning patient care
