Full Job Description

There is one Specialty Registrar in Breast Surgery post available within the department offering the successful candidates the opportunity to train in Breast Surgery. There is some flexibility to tailor the post to the individual's training requirements. There is no on -call commitments with this post.
The posts are available for twelve months initially with an opportunity to extend further for suitable candidates. The post is a service post, but clinical and surgical training will be provided to suit the candidate's needs. Specifically, candidates will be supported to obtain alternative core surgical training competencies and MRCS qualifications, in preparation for applying for higher surgical training., 1. Breast surgery ward rounds and theatre lists and clinic.
2. We will provide training and support for development of operative skills
3. Clinical governance including participation in effective clinical audit and continuing medical education.
4. Contribute to Departmental audit and research with consultant supervision. Duties will include the full range of clinical activities, assisting in operating lists, outpatient clinics and ward rounds. Additionally, successful candidates will be supported in research and audit activity. The trust has a strong medical education department with regular teaching for core trainees and a tailored programme for international medical graduates.
The Department of Breast Surgery has 3 Breast and onco-plastic Surgeons supported by breast care nurses. We provide specialist services including management of all breast diseases including breast screening and reconstructive breast surgery.
We offer one stop clinics as well as results clinic and have regular weekly MDT.
At Northampton General Hospital we provide general acute services and hyper-acute stroke, vascular and renal services to people living in Northamptonshire. As well as this we are an accredited cancer centre and provide cancer services to a wider population of Northamptonshire and parts of Buckinghamshire.
