Full Job Description

Enthusiastic teaching assistant required to join our creative and caring school. We are looking for an experienced candidate to work in our creative and caring specialist provision located at Colville Primary School., Job Purpose: To work as a member of the Speech and Language Centre to support pupils with Speech, Language and Communication difficulties in order to raise their standards of achievement (Level 3 post).

Principal Accountabilities

Support for children - Working under the guidance of the Specialist Teacher:-

  • Provide specialist learning support to pupils with Speech, Language and Communication difficulties at the Centre or in their home schools as outreach.


  • Provide support for the development of pupils' interaction skills through specialist strategies and focused small group intervention


  • Enable pupils to become active participants in planning and reflecting on both their learning and their communication and interaction skills


  • Use appropriate methods to record learning objectives, including pupil views


  • Use appropriate methods to record outcomes in relation to communication and interaction skills development


  • Write objective support notes to record pupil progress which can contribute to individual programmes and help develop future planning


  • Provide specialist support for the planning and implementation of a pupil's entry into a new school


  • Support for the Curriculum - Working under the guidance of the Specialist Teacher:-

  • Provide specialist support to enable pupils with communication and interaction difficulties to access the National Curriculum


  • Provide specialist support for the delivery of the curriculum through differentiation and by using a range of support styles including relevant ICT


  • Be prepared to contribute to individual pupil review and planning meetings, focusing particularly on access to the curriculum


  • Support for the Teacher - Working under the guidance of the Specialist Teacher:-

  • Contribute to reports on pupil progress against NC descriptors.


  • Contribute to the development, delivery and review of IEPs.


  • Contribute to planning and evaluation of work programmes for individual pupils and groups.


  • Organise the learning environment and develop appropriate classroom resources as required.


  • Contribute to behaviour management within the school.


  • Contribute to Annual Reviews.


  • Liaise with parents, Speech and Language Therapists, E.Ps and other outside agencies.


  • Support for the school - Working under the guidance of the Specialist Teacher:-

  • Support effective inclusion of pupils into mainstream classes.


  • Act as a mentor and role model for less experienced Teaching Assistants on best practice and methods of support for pupils with Speech, Language and Communication difficulties.


  • Contribute to whole school INSET on Speech, Language and Communication difficulties.
