Full Job Description

+ To adhere to & apply the Health and Care Professions Council's (HCPC) standards of proficiency and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) code of ethics and professional conduct and all other guidance from MPFT. To be professionally accountable and responsible for all aspects of own work
+ To establish & maintain effective working relationships both within MPFT and with external organisations to meet service requirements and support and demonstrate the Trust's equality values.
+ To assess new service user referrals and care/support needs. Assesses service users and formulates, develops, implements and evaluates programmes of treatment /care/support for individuals, families and carers. The care/support plans may include the following:

  • Promoting independence/self-management and maintaining safety

  • Increased functional ability.

  • Improvement in health and wellbeing including mental health. o Interventions in disease/condition management

  • Prevention and reduction of health inequalities

  • Early supported discharge

  • Case management/treatment/care plans o Palliative and end of life care

  • Embedding an inclusive communication approach

  • Supporting service users to understand new and complex information.

  • + To use professional knowledge and judgement to consider the range of care/support packages and treatment options available. To consider each service user's personal circumstances and preferences in order to implement and adjust programmes of care and intervention.

    Are you a newly qualified Speech and Language Therapist that is enthusiastic about addressing health inequalities for adults with mental health disorders.
    Having great communication skills and the adaptability to use different strategies to tailor care around an individual's needs is essential in this role. You will be working alongside an experienced and skilled B7 Clinical lead SLT and Band 4 Assistant practitioner, as well as the wider MDT including Dietetics, Physiotherapy Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Psychology, Art Therapy and Medical staff. This post would be suitable for both a current Band 5 or a Newly Qualified Practitioner.
    This is an exciting opportunity to have a core role in embedding Speech and Language Therapy across Inpatient Mental Health services.
    We offer excellent clinical and professional supervision, access to relevant courses to support you in developing your knowledge and skills including talking mats training and the opportunity to gain dysphagia competencies in line with the RCSLT competency framework.
    The post will be located at the Redwoods Centre and will have a core role in embedding speech and language therapy across in patient mental health services.
