Full Job Description

We currently have opportunities for a Speech and Language Therapist to Join us at Grange School with potential to work across the Trust.

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Speech and Language Therapist to play a crucial role in supporting the communication and language development of our pupils.

The successful candidate will provide holistic, specialist provision in a neuro-affirming, pupil centred way. You will be:

  • Passionate about supporting pupils, person centred and confident in working with others.

  • Able to (and be supported to) conduct assessments using a strength-based approach.

  • Able to develop and implement individualised therapy plans.

  • Able to collaborate with teachers, parents/carers, and other professionals.

  • Provide training and support to school staff on strategies to promote language and communication development.

  • Able to monitor and evaluate pupil progress, adjusting therapy as needed.


  • The role is full time working 35 hours per week, term-time only, plus 5 additional training days. This is a grade 7 post with a starting salary of £29,961. The full-time equivalent is £34,834

    Main responsibilities
  • To provide Speech and Language therapy for young people with physical impairment, complex health needs and associated learning difficulties

  • To undertake a Speech and Language therapy assessment using investigative analytical and clinical reasoning skills considering all aspects of a pupil's life (social, emotional, environmental)

  • To provide effective Speech and Language intervention to maximise a pupil's ability to communicate

  • To assess for and provide appropriate alternative and augmentative communication systems

  • To provide detailed communication assessments passports/profiles highlighting vocal, non-verbal and behaviours that enable communication


  • Key relationships

    Main contacts of the job include the Senior Leadership team, class teachers, teaching assistants, pupils and parents/carers.

    Key skills and experience
  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent qualification which gives license to practice

  • Registration with the Health Professions Council

  • License to practice from and membership of RCSLT

  • Previous Speech and Language Therapy experience, demonstrating evidence-based practice and the ability to effectively manage a caseload

  • Experience of working with children/young people with SEN, particularly those on the Autism Spectrum

  • The skills to identify, assess and analyse the needs of pupils with complex needs and provide a rationale for interventions

  • Ability to plan individual and group programmes that will be carried out personally and by other staff, formulation of therapy plans which provide appropriate intervention(s), including evaluation of outcomes

  • Hold a valid driving license
