Speech and Language Therapist

The Devon Adult Autism Intervention Team (DAAIT) is seeking an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to provide neurodivergent-affirming speech and language assessments and intervention. The post holder will work within an MDT to deliver evidence based interventions using a tiered model of delivery. The role includes providing clinical leadership through consultations with health and social care teams to provide an equitable service to neurodivergent people. DAAIT is a relatively new service, so the post holder will contribute to the ongoing development of the service.,

• You will provide specialist advice and information about neurodivergence and reasonable adjustments to teams working with neurodivergent people including inpatient services, community mental health teams and social care teams.
• You will carry out skilled assessments and interventions to support the management of communication differences.
• You will attend and contribute to MDT meetings and work collaboratively with the team, including: psychiatry; psychology; occupational therapy; and assistant practitioners.
• The post holder will receive professional and clinical supervision in accordance with Trust policy and Professional Practice Guidelines set out by the RCSLT., A principal purpose of this job is to improve clinical outcomes for autistic adults. This will be achieved through provision of Speech & Language assessments, and evidenced based interventions, as well as consultation, guidance and advice as part of the post diagnostic provision for autistic adults (DAAIT). The role is provided as part of the countywide service, and requires working closely with local health and social providers.
  
  The team covers Devon, including Torbay and Plymouth. We work partly from home, and spend 2 days each week based in the office. Successful applicants will have experience working with neurodivergent adults and delivering interventions to support communication differences.

• Significant postgraduate experience in working with Autistic people with and without a learning disability
• Expert clinical experience in assessment and management of complex communication needs
• Experience in Positive Behavioural Support- Assessment - formulation and development of intervention plans
• Experience in the provision of second opinions and advice to professional colleagues within DPT and partner agencies across the county
• Significant experience in MDT working and complex caseload work
• Experience in supervising/ teaching and training student SLTs
• Experience in teaching/ training/devising and delivering CPD programmes
• Experience in undertaking management and leadership roles within SLT in the NHS and in contributing to the development/ implementation and evaluation of strategies and clinical policies in multi-disciplinary and multi-agency contexts.
• Highly skilled and developed experiential understanding and use of own voice work for modelling and demonstration of all vocal parameters with patients and colleagues, Ability to work independently and use initiative within a service consisting of a network of teams.
• Ability to work as a member of a clinical team.
• Ability to tolerate ambiguity, and maintain own morale and motivation in challenging service delivery contexts.
• Ability to interact with people from a range of backgrounds and unconventional expressions of gender and sexual identities, who may also require understanding of their experience of mental or physical distress and disability
• Ability to use clinical and professional supervision effectively and in particular in relation to reflective practice
• A Standard / Enhanced CRB Check will be required for this role.
