Speech & Language Therapist

Following a retendering process, thechildren's service is due to be transferred to the new provider on the 1st ofApril 2025. Given this post sits within the transferring service, in line withthe legislative requirements, the successful candidate will be part of the TUPEtransfer along with other colleagues., Working in the NHS provides you with the optimum platform to launch your career and you will have opportunity to work closely with our NHS colleagues including Health Visitors, School Nurses, OTs and Physios. We also have strong working relationships with our colleagues in Education; we have opportunities to visit children in their educational settings and liaise with colleagues in education., 1. To provide support and advice for the child's family andparents about all aspects of their care that relate to their therapy needs,adjusting use of language to allow for their level of comprehension tounderstand. 2. To provide and receive complex and sensitive informationwith regard to a child's difficulties and expectations. 3. To attend meetings where requested in order to providespecialist advice about the therapy needs of the child. To arrange thesemeetings when appropriate. To work closely with parents who are themselves dealingwith anger, grief and frustration as they come to terms with the impact oftheir child's condition with support from a senior clinician as appropriate. 6. To provide therapy reports for use within inter-agencies, educational documentation relevant to the practice setting, standards andguidelines 7. To ensure that up to date written electronic records andactivity are maintained in accordance with the professional and organisationstandards 8. To provide programmes on a verbal, written basis or usingpictorial representation as required to ensure these programmes are accessibleto parents / carers 9. To interpret assessment results and identify therapygoals as part of an overall care plan with support where appropriate. 10. To contribute to the child's diagnosis by communicatingassessment findings to the child's paediatrician, parents / carers and otherinvolved professionals. 11. Ensure that children and parents / carers are involvedwith planning and implementation of their care plans wherever possible 12. To make referrals to other professionals and agencies ifrequired to address the child's global needs. 13. Provide clinical support for students. 14. To be involved in planning, organising and deliveringtraining to parents / carers and educational staff as part of the therapy team. 15. To plan and undertake presentation of paediatric therapyrelated talks both internally and externally with support if appropriate. 16. To participate in the delivery of the therapydevelopment plan. 17. To demonstrate participation in Continuous ProfessionalDevelopment in line with the HCPC and professional body requirements. 18. To review and reflect on own practise and performancethrough a variety of means including the effective use of professional andoperational supervision. 19. To deputise for the Band 6 when required. 20. To effectively plan the daily management of a caseloadof children 21. To prioritise clinical work and balance other patientrelated and professional activities as the department requires. 22. To carry out assessments used to contribute to amultidisciplinary assessment and diagnosis of complex needs 23. To use and maintain sound clinical reasoning skillsthroughout the therapeutic process to ensure best practice and identify risk. 24. To assess clients, carers and other professionalsunderstanding of treatment proposals, gain valid consent and have the capacityto work within a legal framework with clients who lack capacity to consent totreatment. 25. Through standardised and non-standardised assessments todevelop the clinical skills to determine and recommend the best course ofintervention, developing comprehensive therapy plans. 26. To develop and implement therapy and management plansfor each child incorporating individual or group therapy sessions andprogrammes for use at home and / or in education settings. 27. To re-evaluate and progress / adapt therapy programmes atestablished intervals depending on the needs of each child and the outcomesexpected and discharge when appropriate. 28. To use investigative and analytical skills, and to seekguidance and support from Clinical Team Lead / Clinical Specialist. 29. To plan and implement a range of child-centredindividual and / or group interventions, using clinical reasoning skills. 30. To use a range of evidence based therapy / managementoptions in formulating programmes of care. 31. To evaluate the outcomes of interventions 32. To contribute to research and development activities 33. Demonstrate skills in dealing with issues associatedwith caseload management, and escalating issues where necessary. Ensure timelyand effective communication with senior team members on all professionalmatters where required. Day to day you will be conducting assessments, writingreports and running therapy sessions (groups or individual) for a variedpopulation of 0-5 year olds including children with Language disorders anddelays, Social Communication Disorders, Speech difficulties, stammering, DownSyndrome, general delay. You will also have opportunity for delivering trainingto parents, HVs and Nurseries. You may work in a variety of settings - HealthCentres, Childrens Centres, (pre-)schools and patients homes. You will have opportunity to work alongside SLTs withspecialist caseloads including the school aged stammering service, childrenwith an acquired brain injury and clients with dysphagia.
