Full Job Description

Banding would be based on experience we would welcome applicants at Band 5 (including newly qualified therapists) or Band 6 level. We will provide training opportunities and development whatever career stage you are at. This is an exciting opportunity to join a supportive, welcoming and innovative team. We have part time (0.5 WTE) and fixed term (18.75 hours per week to end of March 2025) available, for a Speech and Language Therapist, within the Adult Speech and Language Therapy Community Team based in Nottingham city. The service provides high quality, evidence based, swallowing and communication assessments, rehabilitation and interventions, for adults with a range of disorders such as dementias, Parkinsons, FND, long-covid, respiratory and adults who stammer. Patients are seen at home, in clinics, care homes, and in therapeutic groups including adult dysfluency, post stroke total communication skills, and a Parkinsons voice maintenance group. We also offer intensive rehabilitation programmes where appropriate, and training to care home staff and other professionals. Please contact us if you have any questions or wish to discuss any aspect of the post.Informal visits to the team are also welcomed.Main duties of the job There are many opportunities for training and development including regular one-to-one supervision, shadowing, monthly SLT clinical meetings, Clinical Excellence Networks (such as the East Midlands Progressive Neurology CEN) and specialist training in clinical interventions such as Speak OUT and dysphagia rehabilitation. The successful applicant will need to be flexible, innovative, organised and keen to learn for the benefit of your patients. Main duties of the job: Some duties will be dependent on your level of experience and competence. We will provide training and development opportunities. Duties may include:

  • Communication and swallowing assessments
  • Clinical interventions/treatments for adults with acquired swallowing and communication needs and those who stammer
  • Caseload management
  • Supervision of staff and students
  • Training for carers, family members and other professionals
  • Involvement in service development projects and audits
  • We work closely with other community health and social care teams, and the voluntary sector. Our clients present with a wide range of aetiologies including stroke, end of life, dementia, neurological, mental health and respiratory conditions.
